Founded in 1950, SMC Euroclamp formerly The Stockport Manufacturing Company (1950) Ltd had previously been a manufacturer of major fuselage and wing structures for aircraft during the second world war. The Cheadle based factory was then put to use manufacturing hydraulic attachments, to fit onto the newly expanding fork lift truck market, as well as its initial venture into marketing the Roughrider fork lift truck.
As the years past the introduction of new ways to utilise a fork lift truck expanded, seeing applications in all industry sectors. The company continued manufacturing at it's factory in Cheadle, Cheshire for 55 years until 2005 when it moved to new premises in Bollington, Cheshire. During the whole of this period the company has been headed by the founders following generations. Because of this the company has retained a wealth of knowledge and experience in this niche business sector.
Whilst SMC have always manufactured it's own equipment in the past , the undeniable advantage of large production of some of the volume attachments such as sideshifts and small to medium sized rotators could not be ignored. For this reason in 2005 SMC adopted the ATIB range to complement it's own products.
We now also manufacture re-badged products for other well known attachment suppliers which finds its way into sites that are perhaps un-aware they own an SMC manufactured product.
